Abstract
In this talk I will review the problem of consistent truncations that has been central in (super-)gravity for finding non-linear solutions for a long time. Particular emphasis will be put on using geometric and algebraic methods and their application to two-dimensional gravity where the methods become particularly striking. I will also report on recent progress in this direction with Guillaume Bossard, Franz Ciceri and Gianluca Inverso.
