Multiscale design strategies for the progressive failure of architected materials and structures – Focus on interface cracking
- 👤 Speaker: Dr Federica Daghia, École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay, Laboratoire de Mécanique Paris-Saclay
- 📅 Date & Time: Thursday 21 September 2023, 14:00 - 15:00
- 📍 Venue: Oatley Seminar Room, Department of Engineering
Abstract
The talk will introduce some key strategies enabling to achieve a progressive failure response starting from composites with brittle constituents. The interaction of elementary degradation mechanisms with the architecture at different scales, including structural features, calls for specific modelling, simulation, and characterization strategies. A focus is made on the propagation of cracks at a weak interface, as it is the case in laminated composites and bonded joints. Some ideas for further research and collaborations regarding architected lattice conclude the talk.
