How to form a rare-earth rich carbonatite, and why that might be a good thing

Abstract
Carbonatites are the premier economic source for the light rare earth elements (REE), which are crucial for magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines. In this talk I will outline an ore formation model for REE -mineralised carbonatites, briefly outlining how rare earth element concentrations are progressively increased through a variety of geological processes from initial melting, melt evolution & fractionation, hydrothermal overprinting ad finally, weathering.
