Abstract
Many modern Natural Language Processing applications require the ability to predict the upcoming word following a sequence of previous words. For example, statistical machine translation uses it to verify the fluency of the translated text in the target language. The aim is to introduce the very basics of how this is implemented and evaluated, plus to hint at some advanced issues, should time allow.
