Abstract

In the past decade, the field of exoplanet science has been rapidly expanding with the discoveries of thousands of new planetary systems in the Galaxy. The opportunity to characterize worlds different from those in our solar system has revolutionized our understanding of planet formation and dynamical evolution. It is now clear that our Galaxy is teeming with planetary systems of diverse architectures. Yet, it is currently not fully understood how the structure and evolution of our Galaxy may affect the possibility of forming and maintaining these planets. In this talk, I will discuss recent results and future prospects to promote a better understanding of the statistical properties of planets in a galactic context among the Milky Way dynamic components of the thin-disk, thick-disk and stellar halo of the Galaxy.
