Abstract
A central prediction of Einstein’s theory of gravitation is the dynamical nature of spacetime, and in particular the existence of gravitational waves. This comes about at the mathematical level because of the hyperbolic (wave-like) structure of the equations. In this talk I’ll discuss the physical setting, and demonstrate how techniques and results from analysis permit the study of these equations through a worked toy-model example.
