Abstract
I will outline the concept of social balance, and its implications for network structure. Previous attempts to quantitatively define social balance have been based on somewhat ad-hoc metrics, leading to inconsistencies. I propose an inferential framework and discuss practical and sociological implications. This work is early stage â feedback warmly welcomed.
