Galaxies Under the Cosmic Microscope

Herschel and SCUBA2 will soon begin survey science, and are set to uncover 1000s of bright sub-mm galaxies. Here we demonstrate some of the science that is likely to be gleaned from the multi-wavelength follow-up of such sources. We have recently identified the brightest sub-mm galaxy whose brightness (>100mJy) is due to the gravitational lensing effect of a massive galaxy cluster. I show the multi-wavelength follow-up which has been carried out to probe the internal properties of an intensely star-forming galaxy at z=2.
