John Bell and the nature of Reality

- đ Venue: Entertaining Room, Darwin College
Abstract
45 years ago, Bell discovered one of the deepest and most famous results in science by showing that the predictions of quantum mechanics are in direct contradiction with the way we normally think about the world. In particular, he showed that there is a conceptually very simple way to experimentally determine which one is correct, whether it is our intuition or quantum theory. In the following decades a series of experiments were carried out which have showed conclusively that Reality is quantum.
In this seminar I will attempt to explain his idea in a precise way without using any physics or (almost) any mathematics.
