We spend our lives interacting with other people, and in these interactions faces provide a wealth of both fixed (e.g., social group and age), and flexible information (e.g., facial expressions that indicate emotions and likely actions). The quality of an interaction, and its outcome, depends on how we perceive and interpret each other’s faces and expressions. In this talk I will present some of my recent work examining how facial expressions influence decision-making. I will also discuss what can change how people interpret each other’s facial expressions, and consequently the decisions people make. Finally, I will briefly explore how my research relates to life in the real-world.
