Abstract
Islands, particularly small, face certain challenges and vulnerabilities in regard to the impacts and response to disasters, including the those linked to climate change. Conversely, as many years of research has demonstrated Islands also possess certain strengths, characteristics of resilience and knowledge – and island voices should be a central part of effective strategies to deal with disasters. In this seminar, two speakers will present research or theory on Islands and Disasters and discuss why small islands are special and important.
