Abstract

The UK has been a leader in Antarctic science and exploration for more than 200 years. The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is the UK’s national Antarctic operator, and has for the past 60 years been responsible for most of the UK’s scientific research in Antarctica. The nature of the geology undertaken by BAS has changed significantly over the last two centuries. This talk will describe the geology undertaken by BAS , compare the changing conditions of life in the field, and compare past survey work with the nature of science undertaken today. We are very lucky to have a speaker from the BAS this year, and this promises to be a highly enjoyable talk. We urge you all to come along – as usual, refreshments will be provided. Everybody welcome.
