Abstract
In this era of powerful telescopes such as VLT /SPHERE, ALMA , and JWST , we are now able to study the birth of planets in disks around young stars, in more detail than ever before. These observations are providing important insights about the distribution of three important ingredients of planet formation: the very small particles (sub-micron sized grains), pebbles (mm/cm-sized particles), and the gas disk reservoir. These observations reveal fascinating structures in protoplanetary disks which morphology that may vary within these three ingredients. In this talk, I will overview the efforts from the community to link these recent observations to models of planet formation to better understand the physical process that are governing the evolution of protoplanetary disks, including: embedded planets, photoevaporation, viscous evolution, among others; and how these conditions can be reflected in the large diversity of extrasolar systems observed up today.
