Abstract
Dr. Simon Mitton, fellow of St. Edmunds College and author of the official biography of Fred Hoyle, will be giving a talk to the Larmor Society about one of St. John’s most famous fellows, having worked with him for many years. Hoyle is known for his work in stellar nucleosynthesis, but is most famous for ironically coining the term “Big Bang”, despite to his deathbed believing it to be false, and for clashing with many of the most famous astronomers of the day over some of some of his more unusual theories.
