Abstract
CGHR recently launched a new research theme: Global Experiences of Algorithmic Governance. This theme draws attention to the lived realities of algorithmic governance, specifically how agency and discretion manifest in algorithmic systems and how people respond to algorithmic domination. In this theme launch event, CGHR Postdoctoral Scholar Dr Ashwin Varghese will present his work on e-governance and βsmartβ policing in Kerala where he engages with questions of discretion of subordinate police personnel and explores whether the state of Kerala is experimenting with an alternate model of algorithmic governance.
