Abstract
Affective Matter addresses the development and use of programmable wearable materials for the purpose of emotion-self regulation. Materials can provide somatosensory feedback in response to physiological changes of the wearers’ body, such as the wearer’s breathing rate, impacting the wearer’s calmness or alertness. The somatosensory feedback is produced through material shape-change through pneumatic actuation and/or temperature change. The presentation will demonstrate the process and results of case studies using affective sleeves made from programmable fabrics.
