A look into the cellโs warehouse with metabolomics

Abstract
After deciphering the human genome in the late 90s, scientists thought to be truly close to understanding the molecular processes in a single cell. But since then it became clear that the genome alone, a pure building plan of a cell, does not tell you which part of it is actually used e.g. which genes are functional and when. To answer this question, the field of systems biology emerged concerned to characterise cellular function on every level. Metabolomic studies aim to give a precise overview of the metabolomic status and global biochemical events in a biological system associated with environmental factors and diseases. This talk will give an introduction to the field of metabolomics as well as its application in the study of brain cancer.
