Abstract
In 2012 the Collaborations Workshop in the UK coined the phrase research software engineering to acknowledge the importance of software in research. Since then we have seen a steep growth in software engineers and RSE groups in the UK and other countries. But despite the fact that there are more of us masks the fact that the demand for sustainable software in research far outstrips the RSE resources we have. Add to the fact that software engineering is still fighting for recognition in science.
This session discusses how podcasting can help with making our work more widely known. And also to look how podcast as a medium can be used in an educational context.
Dr Peter Schmidt, former research software engineer at UCL , now full-time podcaster mainly for the RSE podcast ‘Code for Thought’. Peter lives in London after having moved there from Germany in 1997. He has worked in particle physics and medical physics research as well as software engineer and architect in a number of companies.
