Abstract
Low-level jets (LLJs) play a crucial role in snow redistribution over ice shelves, sea-ice dynamics, and ocean circulation variability. To better understand these impacts, we analyzed LLJs using radiosonde profiles measured during the late austral summer over the coastal region of the Amundsen Sea Embayment. Additionally, we assessed the performance of the polar-optimized Weather Research and Forecasting (Polar WRF ) model in simulating the observed LLJs and their generation mechanisms. Our findings indicate that katabatic winds and their enhancement by synoptic forcing are the key factors of LLJ formation in this region.
