Novel Modelling Strategies for Masonry Structures
- đ¤ Speaker: Dr Matthew DeJong (CUED - Lecturer in Structural Engineering)
- đ Date & Time: Friday 26 February 2010, 15:00 - 16:00
- đ Venue: Engineering Department -LR6
Abstract
Historic masonry structures are vulnerable to earthquakes, but their seismic assessment remains a challenge. Furthermore, the three-dimensional stability of vaulted masonry structures remains difficult to model. Analytical modelling and discrete element modelling techniques will be presented which can be used to understand stability and predict dynamic response. Results are evaluated through comparison with scale model testing. The presented modelling strategies could allow more effective assessment and retrofit of historic masonry structures.
