Abstract
The Global Water Initiative, founded by a partnership between the the University of Cambridge and the University of California San Diego, aims to be an animating node in a network of networks connecting university research to regional and local adaptation to climate change, primarily in the area of water. After an introductory discussion setting forth the need for a new design for the assessments supporting adaptation to, rather than mitigation of, climate change, we discuss activities starting or under way in the UK, California, Ghana, India, China, Italy, and Mexico.
