Did Neogene climate change impact the mountain belts of Europe?

Whether late Cenozoic climate change was a driver of apparent ‘uplift’ of mountain ranges remains a critical problem in the earth sciences as it determines how anomalous modern landscapes are relative to earth’s geological past. Have erosion rates dramatically increased globally during the last few millions of years? What impact might this have on mountain landscapes, foreland basins and sediment fluxes? These questions are tested using a broad range of thermochronological and sedimentological data from across Europe.
