BIDW02 - Diving Deeper into Defects: On the Intersection of Field Theory, Quantum Matter, and Mathematics

Implementing logical non-Clifford gates efficiently remains a major challenge for universal fault-tolerant quantum computing, especially in high-threshold codes like the surface code. In this talk, I will present a framework that includes code switching and hybrid lattice surgery between Abelian and non-Abelian topological codes. I will show how these techniques provide non-Clifford operations in the standard surface code, either through magic-state generation or non-Clifford gate teleportation.
