Abstract
A clear takeaway from recent observations of protostellar discs is that a large fraction of them show signs of environmental interaction, in the form of large scale spiral arms, infalling streamers or compact dust discs. I will discuss our attempts to explain various aspects of disc morphology from simple theoretical models and what I think it is telling us about the overall picture of how protostellar discs evolve. I will also reflect on the 50-year-old question on the source of โviscosity” in protostellar discs.
