CIFW01 - Foundations of causal inference

I will be offering a philosophical perspective to the workshop. I will explain why the most important philosophical perspective for those making causal inferences is to be aware of what their purpose is and question what they are assuming about causality. The paper will explore debates concerning causal pluralism in philosophy, and present Illari and Russo’s ‘causal mosaic’ view which suggests we should look to put together many causal concepts in a way that helps us address the particular purpose before us.
