- đ¤ Speaker: Andrey Breslav

- đ Venue: FW26, William Gates Building
Abstract
Speaker: Andrey Breslav is the creator of the Kotlin programming language and led its development at JetBrains from its inception to millions of users worldwide. He is the founder of CodeSpeak.dev, a next-generation programming language powered by large language models (LLMs).
Abstract: Andrey will discuss the evolution of programming languages, what makes them succeed or fail, and how LLMs are likely to influence the languages of the future. Key topics include: (1) how to design a programming language for a specific audience; (2) which common pitfalls are tolerable and which are fatal for a language; and (3) what programming may look like in ten years in light of the current AI boom.
The talk will summarise lessons learned from building Kotlin as well as recent developments in AI-assisted programming, and will offer a somewhat unconventional perspective on the future of the field. It is intended as an interactive lecture, with questions encouraged throughout, fostering an open discussion about programming languages, developer tools, and the ways they shape the profession.
