Abstract:
An economic and international history approach to the initial developments of the Spanish Civil War within the context of the chaotic 1930s in continental politics reveals that the Spanish Republic was doomed in the first hours of the protracted Civil War by decisions made across European capitals within 24 hours on a fateful day, July 25th, 1936. The research will also point to the paramount importance of Italian and German support on the Nationalist side of the war from the earliest hours of the conflict, following the failed coup d’Γtat of July 18th.
