CLRs and TLRs in anti-fungal immunity

Abstract
The innate ability to detect pathogens is essential for multicellular existence, and has been achieved through the evolution of germ-line encoded receptors which can recognise non-self structures, the so-called “pattern recognition receptors” (PRR). In fungal infections, the Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) are the main PRR which drive protective immune responses. In this presentation, I will review our current understanding of the functions and role of Dectin-1 (the archetypical lectin PRR ), and other CLRs, and will explore how the collaboration between TLRs and CLRs is essential for protective anti-fungal immunity.
