Intrinsic Neural Timescales - Do they shape the brain's mind?
- 👤 Speaker: Prof Georg Northoff. Mind, Brain Imaging and Neuroethics Research Unit, The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research, University of Ottawa, Canada

Abstract
The brain exhibits a variety of different timescales, e.g., duration of its processing, in its neural activity, so-called Intrinsic Neural Timescales (INT). While the INT are known to show an intrinsic network topography, from sensory to higher-order regions, their exact function for cognition remain yet unclear. My talk will demonstrate the topography as well as the role of the brain’s INT in various cognitive functions including consciousness. This is complemented by computational modeling showing the key role of intra-regional recurrent processing in mediating INT .
