Mechanical characterisation of materials using Virtual Fields Method
- ๐ค Speaker: Vivian Perez, Cavendish Laboratory

Abstract
Virtual Fields Method (VFM) is a flexible way to characterise the mechanical properties of materials using straightforward computational analysis and standard(ish) mechanical test equipment. This talk will present a first-principle derivations of the constitutive laws of continuum mechanics and the principle of virtual work, then put the two together to derive the VFM . Current experimental challenges and possible solutions will be illustrated.
Series This talk is part of the Surface Physics Seminar series.
