Models and observations of Sunspots

Abstract
Sunspots are the most striking manifestation of solar magnetism. The study of sunspots is of key importance not only in Solar Physics (dynamo and flux transport, solar cycle, coronal mass ejections, magnetic reconnection) but also in more fundamental physics such as magneto-hydrodynamics and atomic/molecular physics.
In this talk I will report on our last efforts to understand the structure and nature of sunspots. These efforts have focused on using spectro-polarimetric observations to infer the kinematic and magnetic structure of sunspots and compare these results with the predictions from different theoretical models.
