Abstract
Calcium signalling is undoubtedly the most key process involved in regulating diverse cellular processes in both health and disease. The highly versatile intracellular signal, Calcium involves different spatial-temporal dynamics and is controlled by the 2 Calcium-releasing ion channels, the Ryanodine and IP3 Receptors. It has been proposed that initial events of BINDING evoke conformational changes that lead to GATING or Calcium release by these receptors. Only a thorough understanding of the architecture of these 2 receptors will inform where and how these conformational changes occur within the receptors. This talk will provide an overview of what BINDING -GATING problem is and how Structural and Functional studies of these receptors will help in revealing this mechanism.
