Abstract

In the next in our series of Sales Special Interest Group meetings we will be discussing the increasingly more important use of social media as a sales tool.

Businesses like Jagex, Zappos, Threadless, Local Motors and Sun Microsystems are using blogs, Twitter and other social media to engage early adopter communities. But building Sales through these communities demands that companies rethink pricing, incentives for contributions, the product development process and even the supply chain. Discussing this will be Oliver Kern from Cambridge company Jagex, and author Alan Moore:

Oliver Kern is Head of Online Strategy at Jagex, following working at Oberon Media, fun.net Germany and mediaman. He has wide experience in Social Media, including media planning, viral marketing strategies, email campaigns and cross-marketing co-operation. Jagex is best known for the RuneScape online game, as well as the FunOrb games site. Jagex has over 350 employees, with all content development, management, and customer support provided ‘in house’.

Alan Moore is an author of several books including Communities Dominate Brands: Business and Marketing Challenges for the 21st Century. He is an executive director of Mass Niche Media. He sits on the advisory boards of the mobile IPR and patent company CVON and mobile marketing company, Qustodian, and also sits on the board of inspiration at the Dutch Think Tank Freedom Lab.
