Abstract
The urban image as seen from a high point in the sky, seems conventional in the days of the airplanes and of powerful instruments like satellite maps with easy access on the web. But between 16th and 19th century we have the rise of a language, the conceptual image of the city represented in precise and measurable views from an imaginary high point in the sky. It will be the discovery and the use of hot-air-balloons and airplanes that will definitely change this perception. The paper approaches the subject through the analysis of the Italian and European city views in modern and contemporary times: wonderful images perfectly balanced between art and science.
