“Having been previously an uncommon condition, allergy now affects a quarter of the population. Allergic diseases have become more complex and severe, affecting multiple organ systems within individuals.

Food allergy is responsible in large part for the severe profile of the modern allergy epidemic. As accumulation of this disease in the population has accelerated, science has been slow to catch up. As a result, medical care has often not been based on the best evidence.

In the Addenbrooke’s allergy service, we have been addressing this deficit over the past decade, establishing clinical patterns by defining the natural history of severe food allergy and the best approaches to diagnosis and treatment. In this talk I will discuss the accumulated evidence behind the best current and future treatments of food allergy.” See www.csar.org.uk for more details
