Conjugated polymers are colourful carbon-based materials with semi-conducting properties. Chemically similar to many pigments seen in nature, they can be dissolved in solvents to produce ‘inks’ and processed to produce a range of optoelectronic devices, ranging from tunable lasers to solar cells.

In this talk, I will give a brief overview of conjugated polymers and their applications, and will focus on how spectroscopy can be used to shine light on the underlying physics of these fascinating materials.
