Medical Image Computing - The role of computer science in clinical routine

Abstract
Medical imaging is crucial within the clinical routine of diagnosis, therapy, and intervention. Different devices can provide very different information about the individual patient’s anatomy. Only through the combination of, for instance, high-resolution structural and functional data a broader picture about pathologies can be acquired. However, doctors are often confronted with this huge amount of data which cannot be handled manually. There is need for efficient, automated procedures and intelligent systems which allow the integration, processing, and visualization in a way such that the workflow of the physicians is optimally supported. In this talk I will present some techniques and recent advances within the exciting and emerging field of medical image computing.
