This presentation describes research undertaken in three indigenous populations and investigates their common health issues. The focus on these three populations relates to my personal work with them and to data published by my colleagues. Obesity and diabetes will be highlighted examples and consequences as it can apply to preventive action will be critically examined. The presentation should end with an outlook about how the newly founded Copenhagen School of global health plans to make an impact in prevention and control of chronic diseases in low and middle income countries.
