Abstract
[CANCELLED] 05/03/2011 We regret to inform you that this talk has unfortunately been cancelled. Please rejoin us the week after for a talk by Stuart Eves. ———————————————————— Sir Mark Walport was appointed Director of the Wellcome Trust in June 2003. Before joining the Trust he was Professor of Medicine and Head of the Division of Medicine at Imperial College London. The Wellcome Trust played a leading role in the Human Genome Project – sequencing around one-third of the genome – and remains one of the world’s foremost genomics research centres. The availability of the complete genomic sequence has transformed the practice of biology and our ability to look at how genes function in health and disease. It has enabled groundbreaking science, such as the work of the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium in identifying many new genetic factors associated with common diseases.
Series This talk is part of the SciSoc – Cambridge University Scientific Society series.
