Abstract
Complex systems describe what is known as the ‘emergent behaviour’ arising from the synergistic interactions between simple components. From eusocial ant colonies, stock markets, and weather patterns, to the assembly of base pair molecules into DNA and ultimately, chromosomes, cells, and higher living organisms. Supramolecular chemistry investigates how molecular species interact towards building complex structures from the bottom up, providing essential insights into enzyme function, DNA stability, and bacterial motility.
