Abstract
Excitatory synaptic transmission in the mammalian brain is mediated by glutamate acting on two main types of ionotropic glutamate receptor, known as AMPA and NMDA receptors. Whereas AMPA receptors are responsible for fast glutamatergic transmission, NMDA receptors are important for synaptic plasticity. In my talk, I will review recent findings about the synaptic localisation of NMDA receptors required for long-term potentiation and depression at neocortical excitatory synapses.
