Abstract
Through the narratives of immigrant parents on the significance of music learning, Ylva Hofvander Trulsson will present perspectives on music education as a potential tool for class degraded immigrants to reclaim social position “through their children”. She will discuss the complex interactions, between teacher and parent, parent and child, student and teacher, this process brings about and the possible impact it has on the children.
Ylva Hofvander Trulsson, PhD, is Senior Lecturer in Music Education at the Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University, Sweden, where she teaches at the graduate level and conducts research on intercultural perspectives in music education.
