Abstract
The daily cycle of sleep and wakefulness is the most obvious manifestation of our body’s internal (circadian) clock. Mike Hastings will review what we know about the genetic, cellular and neural mechanisms that make up this clockwork, and how this genetic timekeeper relates to health and disease.
Dr. Michael Hastings is a group leader of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology’s neurobiology division, and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He is known for his highly influential contributions to our understanding of biological clocks through the study of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus in the brain.
