Abstract

he first meeting of the Public and Popular History Seminar this term will take place this coming Tuesday, 8 February, at 5pm, in the Knox Shaw Room in Sidney Sussex. It will feature a talk by Helen Geake entitled ”Antiquities, archaeology and the public”. Helen is one of the key members of Channel 4’s popular and long-running archaeology series, Time Team. She is also a Finds Advisor (for post-Roman artefacts) for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, based at Cambridge University’s Department of Archaeology. Before that she was assistant keeper of archaeology at Norwich Castle Museum. She has a doctorate from the University of York; her major research work has been on Anglo-Saxon burial practices in the seventh and early eighth centuries, studied through the objects deposited with bodies in graves.
