Mandarin Dasher
- đ¤ Speaker: Alan Lawrence (University of Cambridge)

- đ Venue: TCM Seminar Room, Cavendish Laboratory, Department of Physics
Abstract
Dasher’s normal model of an alphabet does not adapt straightforwardly to Mandarin: The alphabet is many times larger than for European languages, and unordered. MandarinDasher tackles this problem by the use of a separate phonetic alphabet, but this is many-to-many with the symbols of the Chinese alphabet. I’ll try to explain (a) the background, and the solution developed by Will Zhou, with some more recent improvements; (b) the resulting framework for defining languages; in particular I’d be interested to hear suggestions for further applications.
(Some of this material has been previously presented by Will Zhou.)
