- đ Venue: Munby Room, King's College
Abstract
On 26, January 2011, David Kato, the prominent Ugandan LGBTI activist, was murdered in his home. This terrible news arose less than one year after he had come to Cambridge with the Centre of Gender Studies and the Centre of Governance and Human Rights to discuss the life threatening situation faced by sexual minority groups in Uganda and the continued struggle for sexuality-based rights. For those who were not able to attend David Kato’s talk last year or would like to revisit the topic one year on, we shall be playing audio clips from that event followed by commentary and discussion by Cambridge academics who have been researching LGBTI issues in Uganda.
We hope this event will be a good opportunity for interested students to participate and discuss the issues surrounding the fight for LGBTI rights in other countries.
