Abstract
followed by a wine reception FREE for members// 2 pounds for non-members
Prof Jeff Forshaw will introduce us to Einstein’s ideas on space and time and explain some of CER Ns most recent discoveries to us. Einstein’s theory of relativity tackles the big questions “What is space?” and “What is time?”. In doing so it unifies them into a single entity called “spacetime” and leads to a world view that is nothing short of shocking – we learn that time and space are subjective entities. Today relativity theory lies at the very heart of modern physics and underpins the explorations at CERN ’s Large Hadron Collider. This talk will take us from the universe to fascinating phenomena of elementary particle phyiscs.
