Abstract

In recent years, the nature of public engagement has been shifting. Alongside well-established means of engaging the public, new media technologies have opened up an enormous range of options for communicating far beyond the physical limits of the university. Producing video for, and disseminating it via, the web is one of the most effective ways of getting your research to a large audience, who can access it from wherever they are and at a time that suits them.

The lecture will begin with a case study from Dr Kevin Greenbank and Dr Annamaria Motrescu (Centre for South Asian Studies), who will talk about their involvement in producing two YouTube films, Elephant Man and A Glimpse of India. Tom Kirk (Head of News) will then provide practical advice about producing video and sharing it via the University’s YouTube and iTunesU channels. Finally, there will be a Q&A with the speakers.
