Abstract
In recent years, the nature of public engagement has been shifting. Alongside well-established means of engaging the public, new media technologies have opened up an enormous range of options for communicating far beyond the physical limits of the university. Successful blogs can be used to share ideas with a wide public and to tell the ongoing story of your research in a less formal way than through traditional research papers. Social media can also be a powerful method of establishing professional contacts, communicating and collaborating with the public, and consulting with partners whom you canβt always reach directly, in person.
The lecture will include advice and experience from Cambridge academics who have made successful use of blogs and social media, including Dr Andrew Holding from Skeptics in the Pub. There will also be practical βhow toβ guidance on getting your own blog or social network started, and we will end with a Q&A.
