Abstract
Gap junctions are protein oligomers that self-organize to form pores linking the interiors of adjacent cells. They are observed to aggregate in the contact region. I discuss the Braun-Abney-Owicki mechanism, which is designed to rationalize this assembly, in terms of Helfrich membrane fluctuations.
